  15. You can have as many NB versions as you only like, on condition
  16. that you write a specific batch file for each version so that
  17. the other version's subdirectory will not be accessible to it.
  18. If it is, it may cause some harm, since there are files with
  19. similar names, at least until version 3.1. With 4.0, all
  20. major filenames have been changed, presumably to prevent such
  21. errors.

  23. To do that, you must put a different PATH definition in the
  24. respective batch files.

  26. However, you can save a lot of space by putting commonly
  27. usable files in one sub(sub)directory accessible to ALL versions.
  28. Such files are the spellers, thesaurus, various HELP screens,
  29. and definitely XPL written pgms (with a few exceptions).

  32. Of course you cannot put all of the versions in one and the same
  33. subdirectory. You must decide which will be in ¢NB, and which
  34. will be in differently named subdirectories. I keep 3.1 in ¢NB,
  35. while 3.0 is located in ¢NB0, and NB 4.0 in ¢LN (=lingua).
  36. I've put the speller, thsaurus, etc in ¢NB¢NB, which stays
  37. accessible to all versions alike.

  39. You need a lot of space for all that. 4.0 takes over 1.3;
  40. if you use Orbis, it creates a whole set of files which take
  41. much space. With 600K you cannot afford even thinking of
  42. installing any extra pgm, I'm afraid.

  46. PS. 4DOS users can have a look at my batch files (stored in
  47. ez-tm03.zip) for switching versions. There are various extra
  48. precaustions that can be taken, such as preventing you from
  49. trying to load a version when any NB version is already
  50. loaded, etc. (In the case of 4.0 lingua, the computer will
  51. get stuck if you do.)
