  27. LCD's can give bovver and aggro till you get them right. My experience
  28. is as below, for what it's worth.

  30. You must use the correct settings for the display; the List must be
  31. sick of my views on this, so I'll sum up by saying that you should
  32. chose a display mode of the correct size (cols & lines) by going into
  33. the PC's Manual and the dos Manual and seeing what they suggest. It's
  34. hard to generalise, I have found, as different manufacturers do
  35. different things (some use Eagle, some use brand-specific versions of
  36. MD-DOS with their own added commands, and the native v. 5 itself now
  37. has a useful set of MODE commands which MAY be adequate) and they
  38. should be used in the correct combination. The problem is totally
  39. solvable (soluble?)....

  41. My personal solution has been to run NB in mono (to get literal
  42. underlining) and with a setting which seems to be classed as "7", when
  43. you've hunted it down with the aid of various Manuals. Then I've used
  44. the most congenial MACHINE PALETTE # setting (a Zenith-specific tweak
  45. to DOS v. 5 ).

  50. Here in deepest, darkest Devon it's a pleasant, mild, bright-cloudy,
  51. almost warm morning. Seriously autumnal; the colours are getting to be
  52. absolutely spectacular according to Herself of the chutney recipes,
  53. but the trouble is I can't really see them - when they want a good
  54. laugh with Ishihara tests they call me in....

  56. But there's a blackbird talking quietly to himself outside my window,
  57. and that's a big comfort.
