  13. For those who complain that computer reduces human interaction, there is
  14. a poignant irony in the discussion of the tragedy in Amsterdam.  At the
  15. same time that the computer gives us the convenience of something like
  16. the Notabene list it shrinks the world to
  17. village size.  No longer can we distance ourselves from tragedy.  As
  18. Walt Whitman says (in a different context) in "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry,"
  19. "Distance avails not, and place avails not."
