- For those who complain that computer reduces human interaction, there is
- a poignant irony in the discussion of the tragedy in Amsterdam. At the
- same time that the computer gives us the convenience of something like
- the Notabene list it shrinks the world to
- village size. No longer can we distance ourselves from tragedy. As
- Walt Whitman says (in a different context) in "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry,"
- "Distance avails not, and place avails not."
