- It's true that VASCAR and Instant-On triggering have made radar detectors
- less useful, but I have found that they still pay for themselves pretty
- quickly and are a good investment. In the case of Instant-On or Pulse
- Radar, remember that you'll still get a warning if a car in front of you
- is triggered. It's true there's not much you can do about getting
- caught by VASCAR and policeman sneaking up behind you at night, except to
- keep your eyes open and leave some cars in front of you. But I've found
- that the vast majority of speed traps are still done the old fashioned
- way.
- It might not be worth it to pay $300 for an expensive model like the
- Escort or Passport, which beg to be ripped off anyway, but some others
- (like the Uniden RD9XL which I have and recommend) are just as highly
- rated for half the price. See past issues of Road and Track or Motor
- Trend for Radar Detector comparisons.
- It's important to get something that's small and accuarate (able to
- weed out false signals).
-
- Good luck,
-
