- Part of brewing beer at home involves heating a barley malt and water "mash"
- at certain temperatures for certain time intervals. This converts the malt
- starches to fermentable sugars. Needless to say, standing over a pot on a
- stove with a thermometer and stirring spoon for a couple of hours is the
- least desireable part of brewing!
-
- I'd like to get some sort of feedback-loop control system that reads the
- temperature of the mash from a thermocouple and turns my electric stove on
- and off. Are there any science supply mail-order companies that sell
- thermostats like this? I called Edmund Scientific's 800 number for their
- catalog. According to the machine I spoke to, I only have to wait 4 weeks.
- Any other recommendations?
