  13. Part of brewing beer at home involves heating a barley malt and water "mash"
  14. at certain temperatures for certain time intervals.  This converts the malt
  15. starches to fermentable sugars.  Needless to say, standing over a pot on a
  16. stove with a thermometer and stirring spoon for a couple of hours is the
  17. least desireable part of brewing!

  19. I'd like to get some sort of feedback-loop control system that reads the 
  20. temperature of the mash from a thermocouple and turns my electric stove on
  21. and off.  Are there any science supply mail-order companies that sell
  22. thermostats like this?  I called Edmund Scientific's 800 number for their
  23. catalog.  According to the machine I spoke to, I only have to wait 4 weeks.
  24. Any other recommendations?
