- Do light pens work with video projectors?
-
- I'm involved in a project where we want to use a pointing device on a
- back-projected screen. We're playing with the idea of using a light
- pen to track the position of the pointer, but will it work?
-
- Do e.g. Nintendo guns (which are based on light pen principles I
- presume) work if you send the video signal to a projector instead of a
- TV set? If yes, great -- tell me about it. If no, why not?
-
- Some reasons why it may not work:
-
- The projector in question uses three small CRTs (one for each RGB) to
- display the image. Each CRT has a electron beam that hits and lights
- up the phosphor which is projected onto the large screen through the
- lenses. Maybe the electron beams are not in sync? Or perhaps the
- characteristics of the phosphor in the CRTs are different from the
- phosphor found in TV sets?
-
- Any pointers to work done in this area would be greatly appreciated.
