- i have a 79 datsun 210 hatchback, 5spd, A14 engine, 120K miles.
- i change the oil regularly @ 3K miles. lately (6-9 months) i've
- noticed that while in 3d or 5th gears (this is an old H-pattern:
- R 2 4
- |_|_|
- | | |
- 1 3 5 )
- there is a loud buzzing/rattling emanating from the gearbox, just
- below the shift. if i lift/push the shift towards neutral just an
- inch or less, some of the noise dissipates, but it still vibrates
- and makes some noise. 1st & 2d seem to be ok, but they are loud
- gears to begin with (high rpm); 4th is a dream; 5th is the worst.
-
- is this a symptom of low gearbox fluid? is there such a thing,
- and can i refill it? any other ideas? am i about to drive the
- car into the pavement?
