- Hey Mike,
- Good luck! Having spent a couple of years in South Dakota before coming
- to Indiana, I can tell you that winters up there are terrible. However, the local
- people know how to handle it very well and you will find that everyone knows
- what to do differently in the snow. I don't know the laws in the place you will
- go, but many people I knew opted for chains over snow tires. I simply had all
- seasons on front wheel drive cars and was able to move adequately. I do think
- that snow tires are a good idea but if you have a rear wheel drive car you will
- have some tricky times ahead. Four wheel drive is best IMHO but FWD is second.
- I don't have any particular brand to recommend and since you will only need these
- tires for a few months out of the year, you will be able to use them for many
- seasons. Therefore, you might want to spend more initially realizing that you
- won't have to replace them every 30 - 50K miles you actually put on the car.
