- Anyone know whether there are replacement eproms for the '89 Escort GT's
- (EEC IV) to improve the performance a little?
-
- Also, is anyone familiar with the function of the octane rod on the
- distributor? I've found that the only gas the engine will run smoothly
- on is bottom of the line 87 octane...any higher and it gets buzzy and
- picks up a "lurch" from the start, and starts idling fast (about 1250 RPM,
- sometimes oscillating up and down a bit).
-
- I've tried fooling around with the base timing (ie. with the spout connector
- plug removed)... seems to run a lot smoother at the low end when I set
- the base timing from 10 degrees BTDC to about 12-14 degrees, and the high
- end RPM's really smooth out and quiet down.
-
- >any< advice and experiences particular to this car would be welcome.
