  18.  Unfortunately, some cars *do* smoke at startup.  A friend's '90
  19. Corvette huffs a cloud of blue smoke in the morning.  In the owner's
  20. manual is a prominently printed warning:  GM won't consider warranty
  21. repair unless the car uses more than a quart of oil every 1500 miles.
  22. For a new $39,000 car?  Yup.  Seems they've reduced the tension on the
  23. oil rings, the valve stem seals have also been changed, etc, all in the
  24. name of reducing internal friction.  So the car uses oil.
