- -> and I'm looking for info on the T-5. The info I'm looking for
- -> includes
- -> 1. Where can I get a good used one for less than the $600 the
-
- Local (here) yards want about $750.
-
-
- -> 2. Where can I get info on what T-5s went in what
- -> Camaros/Mustangs/etc.?
-
- Up until a few years ago, all Mustang T5s were identical except for
- ratios and all Camaro T5s were identical except for ratios. The GM T5s
- sit at a 20 degree angle to the left to move the shifter over. The
- Fords sit straight up.
-
-
- -> 3. Where can I get dimensional info on the T-5. Local libraries
- -> have few auto tech books ...
-
- The tailshaft and input shaft lengths will vary according to the
- original application. The input and output splines will also vary.
-
-
- -> Well, my urges to do an engine/tranny swap in my XR4 have flared
- -> again, and I'm looking for info on the T-5.
-
- What engine do you have in there? The 2000/2300? Just use a T5 from
- the equivalent Mustang engine with the flywheel, bellhousing, starter,
- and drive yoke. If it's the 2.8/2.9 V6, you'll have to see if the T5
- was ever available behind it, perhaps in the Ranger pickup.
-
- If your engine doesn't match anything that originally had a T5, you'll
- need machine shop work. Not hard, but it can be expensive if you don't
- have access to the proper tools.

- The T5 normally uses ATF. Hot Rod says the trans will be more durable
- with a high grade synthetic engine oil instead, though shifting may be
- sluggish when cold.
-
- McLeod sells an adapter/spacer to put the T5 on their standard steel
- bellhousing. Appears to use the standard mounting pattern, could be used
- for normal Ford bellhousings to allow 351C, 260, 6 cyl, etc to use T5.
- Might be adaptable for anything their bhsg fits.
-
-
- Hot Rod, May 84, said the T5 was originally designed as a 6-cylinder
- universal-application box. They claimed that, properly prepped and taken
- care of, it will stand up behind 500hp engines. Claims T5 is closely
- related to SR4.
-
- Hurst sells a spring hit to change the feel of the shifter, plus a
- complete shifter assembly.
-
- ID number is on a tag or stamped in on the left side of the case near
- the main case and tailshaft joint.
-
- most GM have the same bolt pattern and input shaft length. Number of
- splines may vary according to original application.
-
- Ford, AMC, and Nissan are the same
-
- Camaro/Firebird have the trans canted 30 degrees to the left
-
- Ford SVO shifter assembly is from Hurst, different from stock
-
- Borg/Warner advises the T5 needs special fixturing for reassembly.
-
- T5 center distance 77mm 3.03 in
-
- also used in Nissan 300ZX Turbo
