- MT>Hi hope you don't mind me jumping in here - but what is meant by cued
- MT>speech --- is that a form of sign language
-
- Hi Mary. I hope this info is helpful. Cued Speech is not a form
- of Sign Language. It is an aid to speech-reading.
-
- As only about one third of the speech sounds in Engilsh are
- recognizable on the lips, i.e. - the initial consonants in mat, bat
- and pat all appear the same to a person speechreading; a system was
- developed using hand shapes anchored on the nasal area, throat area
- and mouth area that would allow the "m", "b" and "p" to recognized
- by a speechreader who knew how to cue.

- Up Thumb, Paul."
