  17.         I made the following transcript from a tape recording 
  18.         of a broadcast by Pacifica Radio station

  24. [Bill Hamilton is the chief executive officer of the Inslaw Corporation 
  25. (a software company) and the developer of its PROMIS software package.]

  28. BILL HAMILTON:
  29. Danny Casolaro was found dead in West Virginia. He had conversations
  30. with three confidants -- three separate conversations which I found
  31. out about later. And he told each of these three confidants the
  32. same thing: that he had just then returned from West Virginia where
  33. he had met with a source and that he now knew everything that had
  34. happened to the PROMIS software and to Inslaw, but that he had to
  35. go back for one final meeting to pick up the last piece of evidence. 
  36. And he was quite euphoric about his breakthrough. And he said to
  37. each of these people that Bill and Nancy Hamilton (My wife is named
  38. Nancy; works here with me.) were going to be quite excited.

  40. One of the confidants said: "I've had fifty telephone hours 
  41. talking to Danny." (This is someone who lives on the West Coast.)
  42. "During the past year I've spent about fifty hours speaking to him
  43. on the phone. Normally, he plays chess with me. Monday night, he
  44. was like the cat who had swallowed the canary. He knew he had 
  45. broken this thing!" 
  46.  
  47. So, if he was murdered -- and I believe he clearly was -- he was 
  48. murdered because he had found out too much. The other thing I 
  49. should mention to you is that, in the final three or four weeks 
  50. of his life, several different people with backgrounds in U.S. 
  51. covert intelligence operations -- who I talk to on a regular basis 
  52. and who Danny also talked to on a regular basis -- directly told me
  53. that they had told Danny that his life was in jeopardy because he
  54. was having such success in breaking this corruption open. And they
  55. told me that some specific inquiries that Danny was making could 
  56. get him killed. And the West Virginia authorities have never shown
  57. any interest in finding that kind of thing out from people like me
  58. and others who knew professionally what Danny was doing.

  60. So, to rule a suicide, without examining this kind of information,
  61. is a ruling which does not deserve to be taken seriously.

  63. PAUL DeRIENZO:
  64. Can you give me some idea of those very specific things that
  65. Danny Casolaro was inquiring about?
  66.  
  67. BILL HAMILTON:
  68. Danny was planning to go to a particular facility in the Washington,
  69. D.C. area, owned by the United States Government; a facility with
  70. connections to one or more of the people who run "the Octopus".
  71. I think you can assume it's a covert intelligence facility, from
  72. the way that it's presented. And just going to this facility, I
  73. was warned, could get him killed. The other thing that he was doing 
  74. was making inquiries, over the telephone, to the Syndicate in
  75. Los Angeles. And those inquiries had rattled the cages of some
  76. people out there. And there was some concern that they might
  77. respond to the rattling by killing Danny. The claim that I have
  78. heard from some sources is that someone with mob responsibilities
  79. (I guess you'd call it) -- some person in the mob -- is a member
  80. of the leadership of "the Octopus." And it's someone from the 
  81. Los Angeles mob. And Danny was onto it.

  83. PAUL DeRIENZO:
  84. Are you familiar with any of the research that was done by the
  85. Christic Institute in Washington, D.C. concerning the Iran-Contra
  86. scandal?
  87.  
  88. BILL HAMILTON:
  89. Yes. I have read it.

  91. PAUL DeRIENZO:
  92. To your knowledge, are there any parallels there?  Are some of
  93. those same people involved, to your knowledge?
  94.  
  95. BILL HAMILTON:
  96. Yes. Danny's belief about who was running "the Octopus" -- about 
  97. seven or eight people -- some of them are people whom the Christic
  98. Institute identified: [high CIA officials] Theodore Shackley and Thomas 
  99. Clines; Danny also had people like [CIA officials] George Pender 
  100. and John P Nichols, E. Howard Hunt [one of the CIA officers involved 
  101. in President Nixon's infamous Watergate burglary, and allegedly a  
  102. a conspirator in the assassination of President Kennedy], the former
  103. Director of the CIA Richard Helms, [CIA officer] Ray Cline .... 
  104. Those are the people that Danny had identified as the people 
  105. running "the Octopus".

  107. PAUL DeRIENZO:
  108. Anything you'd like to add to this?
  109.  
  110. BILL HAMILTON:
  111. I think it's important that reporters try to get to the bottom 
  112. of this because Danny was investigating corruption in the U.S.
  113. Department of Justice itself. It makes problematical any
  114. possibility that there could be a Federal investigation, unless
  115. there's an independent counsel appointed. So, the press and the
  116. Congress are really the only hopes that we have to try to prove
  117. whether Danny was murdered or not.

  121.        This is one of countless stories unveiling the deeply corrupted    
  122.        and subverted state of our theoretically democratic Government.
  123.        This story makes disgustingly obvious the fact that patriotism is
  124.        not the waving of flags, the tying of yellow ribbons and the mindless
  125.        supporting of our Government, just because it happens to be ours.
  126.        You don't support cancer just because you happen to have it.
  127.        Patriotism is telling the truth to the people of our country
  128.        in order that they may unite to conquer the anti-democratic cancer
  129.        that is gradually destroying ours and our children's freedom.
  130.        So please post the installments of this ongoing series to other
  131.        networks, and post hardcopies in public places, both on and off
  132.        campus.  That would be a truly patriotic deed.
