- After the grand feast we had at the China in Silver Spring last month
- the FOOD_SIG planning another good meal. This time in Rockville.
-
- The September get-together will be at the 4-Rivers Chineese Restaurant in
- Rockville on Wednesday, September, 16. Our ETA (estimated time of arival) is
- 7:30pm, and will eat till everything in sight is gone. The last time we
- were at the 4-Rivers was back in May, and thoes who were there will remember
- the excelent appetizer that Janet B. orders. You'll have to come to see
- what it is (we all tried it and enjoied !! ). We have never had a bad
- meal at the 4-Rivers, and don't expect to this time.
-
- Don't let me kid you too much, we are not really gluttons! We just like
- to gather, eat, talk, and have a good time. Any and all are invited.
- Bring a spouse, friend, or co-worker that enjoys Chineese food, and good
- company. Neither of you will be disapointed. Conversation doesn't turn
- technical too often!
-
- The 4-Rivers is located on the corner of Rollins and E. Jefferson Sts in
- Rockville. Landmarks near-by are CompUSA, and within walking distance
- (1-1/2 blocks) of the Twinbrook Metro (Red-line).
-
- To have an estimate of who all are coming, drop me a note,

-
- What is this FOOD-SIG, anyway?
-
- For folks who haven't been to one of the FOOD-SIG gatherings, here's
- a little background:
-
- Back in the Dark Ages of microcomputing, in the days when Mighty CP/M
- strode the land, the CP/M Users' Group of Washington DC used to meet
- on the third Wednesday of each month. Being a congenial lot, most of
- the members would wind up at a restaurant for dinner after the meetings.
-
- CP/M's days as the dominant operating system drew to a close, and the
- CP/M Users' Group decided to fold after a meeting where 90% of the
- attendees said that their primary (or in many cases, only) machine was
- an MS-DOS system, and that the major reason they came to meetings was to
- go out to eat afterwards.
-
- Since the third Tuesday of the month was free for everyone, and we all
- enjoyed getting together, we just kept on meeting at various restaurants
- every month in the three or so years since the CP/M-UG ceased to exist.
- The days change, but the focus of the group is still the same, good
- eating, good company, and good conversation.
-
- There are no dues, no officers, no by-laws, no bureaucracy. There are no
- requirements other than a heart appetite and the desire to enjoy a good
- meal with congenial people. Spouses/significant others are most welcome.
-
- The location for each month's gathering is posted a bulletin (on the
- Gen-5 BBS) at some point before it's too late. Please join us for an
- enjoyable evening!
