  27. Sun does assert that SCSI disks are not supported on the 4/490
  28. or 4/690 servers. The fact is, the 4/690 *is* a 4/670 with a larger
  29. VME backplane, mounted in a non-standard 19" rack. Both use the same
  30. system board. Basic rule of thumb: If it works on a 4/670 it will
  31. work on a 4/690. The 490 and 690 are not sold by Sun with SCSI, so
  32. the decision not to support this is a marketing one.

  34. We bought our 4/490 as an upgrade from a 3/280 and so it came diskless.
  35. We have three VME SCSI boards, each with from two to four 1.2GB Seagate
  36. ST41200N (CDC Wren VII) drives. (By the way, the Wren VII is NOT SCSI-2,
  37. but it does synchronous transfers > 4MB/sec).

  39. We recently purchased the 690MP upgrade, along with two of the SBE
  40. (SCSI/Buffered Ethernet) cards you described. We have also purchased
  41. the SBus Prestoserve board. All will be installed this Thursday
  42. evening... I will be posting the results here.
