- First I'll apologize for asking this, seeing how it was discussed a few
- weeks back, but at the time I wasn't having this problem so I didn't save
- the information.
-
- I've just connected a 8mm tape drive to my sun and get these messages when
- the tape drive starts up:
-
- esp0: Target 4 now Synchronous at 4.0 mb/s max transmit rate
-
- I know I need to configure the kernel but don't know which file(s) to change
- and what to change in them. If someone could send me this information, I'd
- appreciate it.
-
- Also, aside from getting rid of these messages, are there any other
- benefits? Are there any detrimental effects?
-
- One last question: I'm writing a script to do backups to this drive
- and have estimated that about 15% of the tape will be wasted writing multiple
- tar files to it. Does anyone know how much tape is wasted between tar writes?
- I'd like to incorporate a better algorithm than just making an assumption.
-
- Thanks,
