- I have a 2/50, ROM revision Q, with a Sun2 SCSI board, and 6 megs of RAM
- that I want to bring up on my network here. I plan to run SunOS 3.5 on
- it, and possibly Xkernel on ocasion.
-
- When I tried to boot the machine from tape using the Shoebox from my
- server (60 meg archive tape drive, with the Emulex board, 141 meg ESDI
- drive with that emulex board. A standard Sun shoebox, works fine on
- the server...) It seemed to find the tape drive, spin it for a while, and
- then gave me a "sense error."
-
- This was using tape one of the 3.5 tapes. Now, I know that the 3.5
- distribution is not QIC-24 format, and I have not been able to boot the
- server using a different set of 3.5 tapes (I have a set of tapes for that
- architecture too).
-
- My question is, do I have to do something strange to get the 2/50 to boot?
- Like reconfigure the Emulex board on the tape drive? Am I forced to see
- if I can find an older Systek tape drive?
-
- If I could boot the Sun 3 server with the sun3 3.5 tapes I would be
- inclined to think that my problem is simply that the 2/50 doesn't know how
- to boot from the "newer" style tape drive. Or that my 3.5 tapes are bad.
- But I have a hard time believing that both sets of tapes are bad...
-
- Any pointers would be appreciated!
