  13. This might be unrelated to your problem, but it gave me some similar symptoms.
  14. I had manually mounted the CD-ROM, the OpenWin 3.0 disk, without specifying
  15. "ro", and every time I did a df(1) it would take a very long time to execute.
  16. It was attempting to update the atimes on the cdrom, and timing out at the
  17. drive level.  Oops.  I noticed the messages on the console after a while,
  18. but until then it was a very mysterious performance problem.  I suggest you
  19. do "trace sync" sometime, and see if your filesystem is causing the problem
  20. somehow.
