- Japanese Version of PenPoint Gains Broad Industry Support
- from OEMs, ISVs and SOFTBANK Technologies

- Tokyo, Japan -- September 2, 1992 -- Six leading computer manufacturers today
- announced their intention to build products that will run the upcoming
- Japanese version of GO Corporation's PenPoint(TM) operating system. The six
- companies -- Canon, Inc; Fujitsu Ltd.; Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.,
- Ltd.; IBM Japan, Ltd.; OKI Electric Industry Co., Ltd; and Toshiba
- Corporation -- were joined by five U.S.-based software vendors who announced
- their intention to sell Japanese applications software for PenPoint. In
- addition, SOFTBANK Technologies, Inc. expressed its plan to offer Japanese
- language instruction in PenPoint programming.

- "Japan is a key market in our global strategy for pen-based, mobile,
- communications-intensive computing," stated William V. Campbell, president and
- CEO of GO Corporation. "We are very pleased to publicly welcome these
- partners. The combination of their hardware, applications software and
- technical instruction provides a strong foundation for PenPoint-based general-
- purpose and industry-specific mobile computing in Japan ."

- Mr. Harutake Inoue, general manager of OKI's Open System Division stated, "OKI
- licensed PenPoint because of its sophisticated user interface and advanced
- design for mobile computing. OKI intends to sell PenPoint to its customers in
- the banking, financial, insurance, and other industries for use as mobile
- terminals and dedicated systems."

- Mr. Tetsuya Mizoguchi, general manager of Toshiba's PC and Workstation
- Division, said, "Toshiba has been promoting the development of pen-based PCs,
- and greatly welcomes the release of the Japanese version of PenPoint."

- Recognizing the large opportunity for PenPoint-based mobile computing in Japan,
- five PenPoint software developers -- Ink Development Corporation; Notable
- Technologies, Inc.; PenMagic Software, Inc.; PenSoft Corporation; and Slate
- Corporation -- announced their intention to release Japanese versions of their
- PenPoint applications. Toshiba's Mr. Mizoguchi said, "We are looking forward
- to the introduction of U.S. developed pen-based application software along with
- PenPoint, as this will contribute to widening the Japanese PC Market."

- Mr. Yasunori Kanda, general manager of Fujitsu's personal business division,
- said, "Fujitsu has been developing pen-based PCs for vertical markets, and
- plans to promote the use of PenPoint Japanese version."

- To facilitate the development of Japanese software for PenPoint, SOFTBANK
- Technologies, Inc. announced that it will offer instruction in PenPoint
- programing by Japanese instructors using Japanese course materials. Said
- Masayoshi Son, president of softbank Corporation, "SOFTBANK is excited to see
- PenPoint coming to Japan by the end of this year. At this stage, SOFTBANK
- believes training is the most important requirement for developing the Japanese
- market for pen computing. For this reason, we are opening a GO Authorized
- Education Center in Japan. In the near future, we will introduce U.S.-
- developed applications and development tools to the Japanese market."
