- I just spent the day at an IEEE Local network conference where the
- topic was SNMP. At this confernece it was mentioned that a bare bones
- SNMP agent could be squeezed into 4k of memory and a full blown agent
- would be approximately 10-12k. Does anyone at novell know if Novell
- is planning an ODI SNMP agent? Network management is a key concern at my
- organization and SNMP is the method of choice, only one choice really.
- In its basic form it should be able to provide stats on the nic including
- nic mfg, dos version, ipx version, shell version. Some great options
- would be disable nic, test nic. If something like this is available in
- the public domain all the better. Is this an issue with anyone else?
- I am using a lot of Cabletron nics and they have an SNMP agent that works
- alright as long as you don't do too much 3270 emulation. When a card begins
- to chatter it is disabled by the staff in the network operations center and
- the nic is promptly replaced then serviced off the main lan. Cabletron's
- SNMP only works with their card, well maybe some clarkson driver nics also.
