- I've bought a third party DEC DSP3105S for my NeXT Mono Slab and in the initial
- excitement I ran Rory Bolt's formatter1.2 which I suspect screwed up the SCSI
- mode pages (of which I understand nil). Now the drive seems to think that it
- has 1024 bytes/sector but "low level"(?) it still has 512 bytes/sector (as
- reported by scsimodes). Builddisk works fine, sdform as well, but after some
- use, fsck reports excessive inode dup's and a lot of Apps core dump or show
- other strange behaviour. I suspect that the drive is now really formatted
- wrong, due to the fact that formatter is for Fujitsu disks and other "vanilla"
- SCSI disks as described in the README of formatter.
-
- Charles Chambers initially wrote scsitools because something similar happened
- to him, and he had to restore sane scsi modem pages. I now seem to be in the
- same predicament with my DEC disk. I know TECOR sells this disk for NeXTs, so
- if someone who has such a disk on his NeXT would run scsitools/sense for me
- and send me the output I would be most grateful.
-
- Please e-mail directly, I will summarize if there is more to it than just a
- reselect with the right scsi mode page input. I'll also try to have Charles
- Chambers put the PARMFILE for this disk into the scsitools distribution.
