- Seventh grade geometry wasnt your specialty eh? Area is height times
- width. The number of ways you choose to break up that fixed area does
- not change the area. As for 1280x960, youve still missed the 1280x1024
- boat provided by PCs, which can be had on a fine 19" Sony monitor or a
- fine 21" NEC monitor. SGIs new RealityEngine does 1600x1280, though I
- dont know which monitor they use. Almost all modern workstations and
- quite a few X terminals run at 1280x1024.

- Youre making very bad assumptions. Sony demonstrated two nice monitors
- at the 1989 SIGRAPH conference. The first was the 2048x2048 monitor, the
- other was a 2048x1536 19" monitor. The former is used by airline controllers,
- the latter was a prototype to scope out interest. Another booth had a really
- nice fishtank shaped monitor and reel to reel video deck for displaying an
- beyond HDTV recording format of 1910x1024. There was also a projection booth
- there with a Sony set rendering 1280x1024 (from one of their NEWS workstations)
- on a 10 foot diagonal screen (yes, it was a multiscan system.)

- You really should get out more often. SIGRAPH is held every year, and is a
- great place to learn whats really going on out there. -Steve
