  16. The internal hard drive of my Classic 4/40 refuses to boot
  17. with system 7.0.1, and instead gives an assortment of happy macs
  18. and questionable disks (the disks with the ? in it, not disks
  19. which are of themselves questionable in some manner) and
  20. finally a sad mac with the sad mac code of:

  25. It will, however, boot quite happily with system 6.0.7, and I
  26. can boot from my external hard drive (Quantum 105) with 
  27. a copy of the very same system 7.0.1, so I doubt that it's
  28. a corrupted system file (yes I'm properly deblessing the 
  29. system 6.0.7 (removing it completely has no effect), I've 
  30. reformatted the drive both with the Apple HD Set Up and with 
  31. ETC Tools, and as soon as I can possibly get some high density
  32. disks in this godforsaken backwater community I'll try a fresh
  33. clean copy of system 7.0.1)

  35. From the sad mac I assume that this is probably some sort of
  36. hardware error. Does anyone know just what exactly this 
  37. particular sad mac code is supposed to mean? I didn't see it
  38. in the list of sad mac codes in the back of the macsbug guide.
