  23. But a mac *serial* cable (what the original poster asked about) isn't the
  24. same as either a "Super VHS" cable or a Mac ADB cable.

  26. BTW, the proper term is "S-video" cable, *not* "Super VHS" cable.
  27. S-video, which refers to a standard for transmitting a video
  28. signal with seperate brightness and color information, has nothing to do
  29. with VHS or SVHS.  Laserdisc players, 8mm camcorders, etc. all have
  30. S-video inputs and/or outputs (and I think 8mm even predated SVHS).

  32. Of course, so many TV manufacturers and SVHS VCR manufacturers are
  33. propogating the term "Super VHS cable" that it'll catch on, just like the
  34. "fact" that Bill Clinton raised taxes 127 times :-)  A lot of the TV
  35. manufacturers would even have you believe that you *need* an "SVHS ready"
  36. TV to use an SVHS VCR.  That's about as accurate as saying that you need
  37. "digital speakers" to listen to a CD player.
