- As far as I can tell the 128 has settled quite nicely although the
- original company that manufactured them (M.O.S.T. Inc.) has stopped production.
- The good news is that M.O.S.T. has been shipping their 256 drive to OEM's
- with better specs and I can hardly wait to see how reliable it becomes as
- a standard. I read earlier that someone on the net had a concern regarding
- proprietary formatting. I called the company and talked to an engineer and
- he said " Of course its propriatary simply because its the only 256 optical
- out there." However, it does read all standard formats (ISO, Rockridge, etc.)
- and can be switched to read 128 meg discs. It also can reformat existing
- 128 discs to 256 meg. so ya don't have to go back and buy more media.
- If there's enough interest maybe we could boundle our orders together to
- get a better discount. I am willing to work with a user group to go to
- the company (they are local to me) pick up the drives and mail them out in
- exchange for a discount on a drive. Maybe M.O.S.T. would be receptive to
- discounting for educators? I don't work for these guys but I'd like to get
- their drive if it does what the specs say. Has anyone bought one yet?
- Any first hand knowledge of how the drive works?
- Inquiring minds want to know........
