- Hi!
-
- I am posting this on behalf of my brother who has a 3 year old Mac Plus.
- This past weekend, he tried to boot up & all he saw were some vertical
- black and white stripes on the screen. They were 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch
- wide. He said the machine "groaned" when he tried to boot it. He attempted
- to start the machine several times, both from the hard disk & from the
- floppy with the same results.
-
- Since I live several hundred miles from him, he decided to take it into
- the local Mac shop & get an idea of what was going on. As it turned out,
- they were unable to duplicate the problem. I.e., the machine booted
- fine.
-
- My question is what's going on? Does he have some cold solder joints?
- Loose SIMMs? A sick power supply? Something else to worry about? Or were
- the Labor Day weekend computer gods just telling him not to work?
-
- Any and all pointers are appreciated. I plan to get Macintosh Upgrade &
- Repair Secrets to futher investigate.
-
- Thanks in advance for your help!
