  13. I am posting this on behalf of my brother who has a 3 year old Mac Plus.  
  14. This past weekend, he tried to boot up & all he saw were some vertical
  15. black and white stripes on the screen.  They were 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch
  16. wide.  He said the machine "groaned" when he tried to boot it.  He attempted
  17. to start the machine several times, both from the hard disk & from the 
  18. floppy with the same results.

  20. Since I live several hundred miles from him, he decided to take it into
  21. the local Mac shop & get an idea of what was going on.  As it turned out,
  22. they were unable to duplicate the problem.  I.e., the machine booted
  23. fine.
  24.  
  25. My question is what's going on?  Does he have some cold solder joints?
  26. Loose SIMMs?  A sick power supply?  Something else to worry about?  Or were
  27. the Labor Day weekend computer gods just telling him not to work?

  29. Any and all pointers are appreciated.  I plan to get Macintosh Upgrade & 
  30. Repair Secrets to futher investigate.
