  11. OK folks, I just bought a Mac SE. it has 4 megs RAM, 20 meg
  12. hard drive and the SuperDrive. I want to use it as a small
  13. Mac BBS. I also have a Quadra 700 20/160 with the following:

  15. 1) Sony SMO (300 megs r/w per side) [SCSI interface]
  16.  
  17. 2) NEC CDAR36 cd rom drive [SCSI interface]
  18.  
  19. 3) WangDAT 1300 4mm tape backup [SCSI interface]
  20.  
  21. 4) TwinComm 14.4 kbps fax/data modem
  22.  
  23. 5) Panasonic KXP4450 Laser Partner (tm) laser printer. SErial/parallel
  24.    printer interfaces only - no Apple Talk interface.

  27. Now, I want to place the bbs sw (Hermes 2.0 I believe) on the internal
  28. hard drive in the SE. I would like to place the fax/data modem on
  29. the SE also. So, using the Printer port on the SE with the LocalTalk
  30. connector, leaves the serial port for the modem.

  32. I want to put the Panasonic laser printer on the serial port of the
  33. Q700. And the LocalTalk connector on the printer port of the Q700.
  34.  
  35. I want to put the CD rom drive on the SE's scsi so that the BBS can
  36. access it quickly.

  38. I want to put the Sony SMO and the WangDAT tape drive on the Q700's
  39. SCSI port.

  41. Now for the Questions:
  42.  
  43. 1) Since neither printer nor modem have an AppleTalk hw interface,
  44.    how do I access the laserprinter from the SE, or the modem from
  45.    the Q700? I have the two macs working through AppleTalk and can
  46.    access my MicroPhone program on the Q700 from the SE, but it won't
  47.    dial out the serial port on the Q700 when uPhone is run on the SE.
  48.    Something about printing.

  50. 2) Can Hermes access partitions on the Sony SMO on the Q700 thru
  51.    the AppleTalk network? Should be able to .

  53. 3) Can I use the WangDAT on the Q700 to backup files on the SE?

  55. I guess my biggest need to use both the modem and the laser printer
  56. from either mac, but since neither has an Appletalk interface I am
  57. lost. I could buy a Shiva NetSErial interface for both but the Shiva
  58. NetSerial's are $300 apiece!! Kinda expensive. But it seems that since
  59. I have an unused serial port on the Q700 and the SE, I should be able to
  60. use them for the modem and the printer.
