- I suggest you check out a place called EmPac, they have a place in Golden
- vally and I believe one in bloomington.
- One my desk at work sits a 486-33 DX with 4 Meg Ram 105 Meg Hard drive
- (which is to small!) and a SVGA monitor (and both floppys 5.25 & 3.5)
- The current EmPac price for this is $1699.
-
- They have a wide range of options and you can pretty much have them build
- whatever you want. If you were me, you would get the following system for
- home use:
- 486-50 DX (not the DX2 )
- 256k cache (my system at work has no cache, it hits 51 on the norton v4.5 SI)
- Local Bus VGA (this makes windows run ~10x faster)
- Non interlace Multi-scan SVGA monitor W 1Meg card (1024x768 x256 colors)
- 240Meg drive (no drive is big enough for me)
- Both floppys
-
- What I just described Empac would sell for about $3K.
-
- Actually I only need a motherboard for my system at home, but that is what I
- would get if I had to start from scratch.
-
- I found there flyer here. three locations:
- new hope 593-0988
- little canada 481-0194
- bloomington 884-4992
-
- the free computer newspaper 'The Computer User'?? on newstands around town
- always has a 2 page ad by EmPac.
-
- Stay away from the bottom of the line moniters, Your eyes will thank you for it
- (that's good advice for anybodys moniters)
-
- Just a happy customer.
-
- P.S. Rumor has it 486 prices will drop another $100 to $300 this fall
- so if you feel like waiting... (AMD will introduce the AMD486 and
