- HI,
- I have a 286 computer, that I put together from various spare obtained
- through a relative. I would like to add a 1.44MB 3.5" drive. How can
- I tell if the current controller will support it.
-
- It is currently supporting a Seagate ST225-1 20MB Harddrive which I assume
- is MFM. Also a 360K floppy. I strongly suspect that it has also been used
- with a 720K 3.5" floppy, because the heap of components I got had some
- of these, though I couldn't get them to work(I didn't try too hard).
-
- Anyway the manufacture of the board is National Computer Ltd(NCL) and the
- number is NDC5425-01AA.
-
- The board is surface mount, except for one slot which is filled with a
- TMM24128AP. Other promemnt chips are a 8804(interface controller?), 8746,
- 80500, 82253, 8805, 82354, everything else I think is Standard TTL stuff.
- There are four connectors, two for data cables, two for hard disk control,
- Also a four pin connector for LEDs on box and two jumpers that I don't
- know what they do.
-
- A. Could someone hazard a guess as to wether this will support a 3.5" HD?
-
- B. Will I have to change jumpers or anything(right now they are open)?
- If so what would they do?
-
- C. If I go out and buy a 3.5" drive, and I want to set it to drive A, and
- change may 360K to B, will I have to reset jumpers on either of them?
-
- Thanks in advance,
-
