- Back when I was in need of testing the latest (at the time) VGA
- cards we found that the driver software seemed to be more important
- than the electronics: our benchmark tests - written here - seldom
- agreed with the "prevailing wisdom" because they acessed the
- hardware registers, etc, directly and did not use the provided
- drivers. For example, the ATI Wonder that everyone seemed to rave
- about was one of the slowest in our tests. Hardware seems to be
- easier for some companies than does the creation of good driver
- software.
