  10. Is there such a thing as an IDE controller card that uses its
  11. own BIOS?  I have an RLL controller that allows you to set the
  12. drive type to "1", and its own BIOS takes care of things.  Is
  13. there an IDE controller like that?

  15. The reasons I ask this question are:
  16.  - I have an older 286 whose BIOS will probably not work with an
  17.    IDE drive.
  18.  - I do not have the funds to buy both a new drive and a new
  19.    motherboard.  And right now the drive is more important
  20.    than the motherboard.
  21.  - It is wasteful and (IMO) silly to buy a 286 BIOS (since it
  22.    would cost as much as a whole new 286 motherboard!).
  23.  - It is too expensive to buy an RLL drive because they are
  24.    appearantly *more* expensive than IDE drives.  (Go figure.)
