- Is there such a thing as an IDE controller card that uses its
- own BIOS? I have an RLL controller that allows you to set the
- drive type to "1", and its own BIOS takes care of things. Is
- there an IDE controller like that?
-
- The reasons I ask this question are:
- - I have an older 286 whose BIOS will probably not work with an
- IDE drive.
- - I do not have the funds to buy both a new drive and a new
- motherboard. And right now the drive is more important
- than the motherboard.
- - It is wasteful and (IMO) silly to buy a 286 BIOS (since it
- would cost as much as a whole new 286 motherboard!).
- - It is too expensive to buy an RLL drive because they are
- appearantly *more* expensive than IDE drives. (Go figure.)
-
- Thanks in advance for all information.
