- I'm having a real wierd problem on a DTK slimline case 286 system I
- thought someone on here might have seen before. I suspect somewhere
- there is an open that is making connection because of the heat, but
- haven't discovered anything yet.
-
- System:
- DTK 286-12 in a mini desktop case (sideways mounting cards)
- 1MB ram, MFM hard drive off built-on controller (ST251)
-
- Symptoms:
- When things are working normally, flipping on the power switch
- causes a quick beep and the system boots normally. When it's
- acting up, there is no beep right after power-up. The reason
- I say the problem is heat-related is that the system only
- seems to work fine when it's warm! When it's cool, turning it
- on causes the PS fan to spin up, the HD spins up and the 3
- kbd lights flash once. If at that point I touch nothing, the
- system will finally _beep_ and boot up normally after about
- 5 minutes.
-
- By the time it gets warm enough to finally fire up the CPU is VERY
- warm. It will just about remove skin from a finger. After it's on and
- warm a CTRL-ALT-DEL greets me with a quick beep and reboot every time.
-
- I know it's probably just an open somewhere, but figured someone on here
- might have possibly seen something very similar to this before and may
- be able to point out a good place to start. I don't read this group too
- regularly, so please E-Mail any help you may be able to give! Thanks...
