- I have an old Visual 1083 portable PC, that I would like information
- about. I know the basics (4.77 MHz 8088, 512K RAM, two 360K floppies,
- socket for copro, composite and RGB video ports, serial and parallel
- ports), but I have a few questions in particular and would appreciate
- any other information that I might not know about this thing.
-
- 1. A serial port "semi-incompatibility". I can get a modem to work
- using a very old version of Hayes Smartcom. Everything else that
- I've tried locks up the machine during initialization, with
- "Unexpected Int 10" displayed on the screen. Is there a fix for
- this, or is there other communications software that works with
- this computer? I can only download ASCII at the moment.
-
- 2. This model appears to have provisions for a flip-up screen.
- Were they ever available? There is a jack located in front of
- the left floppy drive. (Looks like a phone jack.) Is this
- for the flip-up screen?
-
- 3. There is an unused expansion port and an unused sync/async port
- on the back of the computer. Was anything ever developed (or
- better yet, is anything available) to use these? Even specs
- would be useful, if I could make something that would use it.
-
- I bought this thing a few years ago from someone who originally bought
- it from DAK. I didn't get any documentation with it. I did locate
- Visual's phone number, but they said it isn't supported anymore and
- I couldn't get any further information. I'd like to learn all I can
- about this computer because it was my first and I'd like to keep it
- around, and I'd like to make it as useful as possible. :-)
-
- Please respond by mail, as news delivery has been unpredictable lately.
-
- Thanks in advance,
-
