- The 24X card is not what would be considered a "downgrade". Most
- benchmarks support that the 24X card is better than the Stealth
- in most cases. There will be OS/2 support for the 24X and Stealth
- as soon as IBM releases the 32 bit graphics engine. Anyone that
- wishes to develop drivers for the 24X card for freeware Unix Operating
- Systems, under the current requirement, is asked to sign a non-disclosure
- agreement with Diamond. There was a post earlier stating that several
- of the freeware unix developers were not going to support the 24X card.
- It may be a better approach to design drivers under Unix that support
- VESA video modes. Most of the Diamond cards and others support the VESA
- video standard.
-
- The 24X card is quicker on some operations than the Stealth. There are
- less addressing problems with I/O ports on the 24X card than there are
- with the Stealth. S3 chips conflict with COM4. There is a 32 bit version
- of the S3 chip and the ET4000 chip in the works.
