- Hello All,
-
- I am having trouble adding a HP 1600 Model 2000 or 2000DC 4mm DAT
- tape drive onto an HP 9000/825 running HP-UX 8.0.2.
-
- I have a HP 27147A SCSI card in the 825 and both the SCSI2 and TAPE2
- drivers are loaded in the kernel. When I boot the system, the kernel sees the
- drive at the appropriate SCSI address and makes the appropriate special files
- in /dev/rmt and /dev/mt. The special files it makes are below:
-
- <<<<</dev/rmt>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
-
- crw-rw-rw- 1bin tape 5 0x040200 2h
- crw-rw-rw- 1bin tape 5 0x050200 2hc
- crw-rw-rw- 1bin tape 5 0x0c0200 2hn
- crw-rw-rw- 1bin tape 5 0x000200 2l
- crw-rw-rw- 1bin tape 5 0x080200 2ln
- crw-rw-rw- 1bin tape 5 0x020200 2m
- crw-rw-rw- 1bin tape 5 0x0a0200 2mn
-
- When I run sam and look at device drivers in the kernel and choose TAPE2 and
- ask for a list of special files/devices associated with this driver SAM
- reports the list of files above from both /dev/rmt and /dev/mt, and knows
- that the address of the device is 4.5.4.0 (Mid-bus address down to SCSI LUN#)
-
- Now when I try to do a `tar cvf /dev/rmt/2m /etc' I get a:
-
- I/O error: Cannot open device
-
- Does anyone have a 1600 Model 2000 or 2000DC 4mm DAT drive (aka: HP 35480A
- or 35470A) on a HP 9000/825 running HP-UX 8.0.2 or a similar vintage of
- HP-UX that has the formula to make this puppy run properly? Im sure it
- doesn't take a unique aftermarket driver because the Model 1300 5.25"
- HP DDS-DAT drive works fine on the 9000/825 systems.
-
- Many Thanks to all who reply!
