- ANY computer hardware/operating system/application package is "open" to some
- lesser or greater extent. This is simply because computers are highly
- flexible tools for doing things. Otherwise, a computer would just be a
- hardwired collection of switches and relays.
-
- The question is, which vendor's/consortium's offering are most open in terms
- of
-
- - adding hardware from other vendors
- - adding software from other vendors
- - networking to other vendors
- - amenable to changes in the operating system, configuration, man-machine
- interface, network configuration, etc.
- - commonality with products from other vendors.
