- I am using the native UUCP implementation under HP-UX 7.0 and 8.0, the
- 'g' protocol on a dialed telephone modem line. This gives me a 64 byte
- packet size and a window of 3 packets. This gives me poor performance.
-
- The communication peer can take packet sizes up to 4 kilobytes and
- windows of up to 7 packets. On System V UNIX, I believe this is called
- the upper case 'G' UUCP protocol. I believe this would give me better
- performance.
-
- Is there any way I could change these communication parameters in the
- HP-UX UUCP implementation? I have read the "Remote Access User's
- Guide" on the HP-UX laser ROM forwards and back, but it gives no
- hints.
-
- Should I rather install a non-native UUCP implementation? Would any
- free implementation, like the GNU UUCP, solve my problems?
-
- NOTE: The laser ROM manual states that the HP-UX UUCP 'g' protocol
- implementation uses a 64 byte packet size, but does not mention the
- number of packets in a window. From varying window sizes on the
- communication peer, I have concluded that HP-UX UUCP does not like 7
- packets per window.
