-
- I couldn't agree more, Stan. I'm glad another vendor posted to balance
- that first post. I was at Interex as an attendee. I thought I'd offer
- a few observations as well.
-
- First, Interex serves 1000, 3000, and 9000 systems. There were many
- papers at Interex that were 9000/HP-UX based. Interworks supports only
- workstations (9000/{300s, 400s, and 700s}). For 9000/800 systems, Interex
- is the way to go.
-
- I must also state that ki Research was not alone. Dozens, perhaps even
- hundreds of people also freaked and ran for the airport. My office
- contacted me to give me the option of leaving, but I decided to stay.
- The conference seemed a bit smaller on the last two days. Interex
- published some figures that confirm my impression.
-
- Also it was clear to me what ki Research wanted. They did not want to
- leave their stuff behind. They wanted Interex to drop everything and
- instantly retrieve their packing materials. A bit unreasonable perhaps,
- but I can comprehend the request. On Wednesday and Thursday I did see
- some deserted booths. The booths were up. Literature was available.
- But the equipment was gone. Perhaps Interex stored the stuff, I don't
- know. Storing the stuff out of public view was a good idea if that's
- what Interex did.
-
- Ultimately, Interex officials answer to the members of Interex. Most of
- the Interex attendees wanted the conference to continue. Given that
- climate, they really had little choice but to go ahead with the show.
-
- By and large, I have to give Interex very high marks for the way they
- handled a very difficult situation. I do think that Wednesday's
- schedule could have been handled a little better. Since Wednesday's
- sessions started an hour late, why not simply extend the day one hour?
- That would have greatly alleviated the scheduling difficulties of the
- last two days.
-
- In addition to the convention center staff and the Interex staff, kudos
- should go to the hotel staff. I too was staying at the Hilton and I must
- say that they had their act together.
-
- Well, I notice that next year's conference is in San Francisco! We
- shouldn't have to worry about any hurricanes there :-)
