- So far DEC has shown OSF/1 and OpenVMS running on the same Alpha
- machine types (desktop and deskside workstations) in various shows.
- There have also been announcements about an Alpha based Windows NT
- PC under development (using PC type components like bus and graphics).
- My personal feeling is that it will take a while for OSF/1 and OpenVMS
- to be ported to the Alpha PC since so many drivers need to be written
- for them, but don't know what the status of WNT is on the workstations
- and servers.
-
- Also note that the ability to run various O/S's on the same box may
- not necessarily mean that you receive the license to run all O/S's
- with the box. For example if you buy a VAX which is capable of VMS and
- Ultrix right now, you only get the license to run one of them. The
- license for the other OS is an extra charge item.
-
- While we are on the same subject, does anyone want to "guess" what
- the Alpha based systems are going to be called? Somehow ALPHAstation,
- ALPHAsystem and ALPHAserver don't sound right!
