- The machine needs lotsa memory - UNIX + X11 + OSF/Motif spells an
- awful lot of memory pages needed. A machine with a 16MB TT RAM works
- quite nicely (well, that's my opinion anyway; there are times where
- there are delays).

- Markus, there was no time to validate a new gcc release. Besides, the
- gcc2.x line is still considered beta (at best); the 1.x line is
- considered "stable production quality" - that's FSF's line, not mine (and
- it's still being maintained, 1.41 was just released). The Atari gcc was
- made to be a complete replacement for the AT&T/Motorola compiler, which
- included having to put in support for position-indep. code, ELF and
- DWARF, and all sort of funny compiler flags that were not "native" to
- gcc1.39. All that was a LOT of work.
-
- If anyone intends to use gcc2 on ASV, I've got a configuration that
- works just fine for me, but hasn't gone through any sort of rigorous
- testing process.
