- Howdy All,
- Thought I'd pass along this bit o information. Hopefully its
- not to painfully obvious, like figuring out that the car has to be in
- park BEFORE you can start it. OK, for all you people who own the
- Audio Animator AND Instant Synth, here goes!
- Step One: MAKE A BACKUP COPY! Don't do the next steps on
- the origional! There...that didn't hurt did it?
- Step Two: Break out your favorite sector editor, I use
- Copy II Plus for all my sector editing needs...get into the sector
- editor and...
- Step Three: Read Block $295 You will see a number of pathnames
- One of them will have Card6850.MIDI in it. Change that to
- Card8530.MIDI. Save that block back to your back up copy (your NOT
- doing this to the origional are you? Shame, shame!).
- Step Four: Copy the Card8530.MIDI driver from your System Disk
- or the disks that came with your AA, into the driver folder on the
- Instant Synth disk.
- Step Five: Turn on your midi keyboard.
- Step Six: Boot up the Instant Synth disk. Once everything is
- loaded get into the MIDI SETUP dialog. Now, you have effectively
- replaced the Passport MIDI driver with the Audio Animator driver. To
- turn it on and use your midi keyboard....
- Step Seven: Choose Apple Midi and enable everything. You will
- be told that the slot is busy. Get back into the MIDI SETUP dialog and
- choose the other option...the Passport one. Once again enable
- everything. I don't know why you have to play around with the other
- driver but for some reason it won't let you just load up the
- 'passport' (now AA) driver directly.
- Step Eight: Your all set! Now to play an instrument with your
- midi keyboard click on the little keyboard at the lower left of your
- screen. See the little round dial between 'ADD' and 'DELETE'? Click
- on that to turn it on and you can now play it! Sometimes you'll get
- warnings about 'bad packets' or 'midi read error'. Just click on
- 'ok' and ignore them, the program hasn't crashed on me yet because
- of them.
-
- Yes I know its not SynthLab but some of the stereo panning
- effects are incredible, and I have yet to here a good female voice
- instrument on synthlab, yes the Noise Tracker one is ok but where
- talking MIDI here.
- Now that Big Red has wisely picked up a bunch (all?) of
- Electronic Arts Apple II programs you can get Instant Synth and
- Instant Music from them for (I believe) 15$. Its not bad, not
- great but not bad, worth picking up if you like doing music on your
- GS...
