- We have a DN3500 (8 MB, currently running 10.3) that will become
- "spare" over the next week or two. There are plans to use it as a
- dedicated X terminal, but it has been suggested that it could also
- be used as a (dial-in) terminal server for rlogins to other (mostly
- non-Apollo) nodes.
-
- The main question is how good is the serial support (e.g., can we
- realistically support 3 9600 baud dial-in ports on the beast)?
- If so, (and even if not :-)), what are the real-world limits? I
- assume we couldn't support 3 V.42bis/MNT5 modems (alleged throughput
- topping out at approximately 58k baud equivalent), but it would be
- nice. what _could_ we support? Is 3 2400 baud lines the limit?
-
- Would there be any benefit to upgrade the node to 10.4 (we have
- it, we just haven't bothered to install it yet)?
-
- For the most part, any X terminal use would be during (normal :-))
- working days, while dial-in use would be during evenings and weekends,
- but there would be some overlap. Would X use impact the async usage?
- (I don't think that the reverse matters much).
-
- Thanx for any input!
