- This past weekend our DN10000 crashed and failed to come back up
- after a cold boot. Salvol complained that it could repair the
- file system automatically. We did the following:
-
- SP> ex salvol
- uid is 20202020.450ADE0B should be 00000201.00000000
- lv label validation error, block header error
- Error: status code 80011, could not assign logical volume
- SP>
-
- So, is there any way to put a proper volume label back on the disk
- with SP> tools (invol?) without destroying all the data? Note that
- ``SP> ld'' shows a //local area on the hard disk, but some of the
- tools (DEX) can't find their help files (they seem to look in a
- different disk partition--part of the Aegis / directory).
-
- We don't have the diagnostic manuals or hardware/software support
- from HP. Assuming we have lost all our data and must start from
- backup tapes, what general procedure is involved?
-
- Does the following sound about right? (We haven't booted off tape
- since we got the machine a long time ago--is that done with config?)
-
- Invol the disk, if salvol now runs, run config to prepare to boot
- from tape, boot from tape, load in the last backup tape, struggle
- a while to get things back to where they were...
-
- Finally, what's a DN10000 with a broken hard disk worth these days?
