- Hi, I have an Amiga 3000/25 and DCTV, and have a few tips for fast animation
- with it. If you must have full screen animation there are a few sacrifices
- you have to make. Apparent resolution is a product of screen resolution,
- colour, and speed. I you give up some of the first two, the speed of the
- resulting animation can make up for it. The following will speed up
- animations:

- 1. Turn off overscan. If you do this, you will only have to move 69% as much
- information.

- 2. Switch to 3-bit plane mode. You will never notice the difference if you
- are doing something fast like a canyon fly through. You will notice the
- drop in colour though, if you have an object which is stationary or moving
- very slowly. You only have to move 75% as mush data in this mode.

- 3. Switch to a non-interlace mode. I'm not sure about the quality of
- non-interlace for recording. You might want to run dolace, or some such
- program before recording. Once again, the drop in resolution is only
- noticeable in object with little or no motion. You only have to move 50%
- as much data.

- So, if you use all three, you have 26% as much data as an overscan, interlace
- full colour animation. Once again, this is assuming that you are doing a
- full screen movement style animation. Using all three of these tips, I get
- at least 25 fps no matter how complicated the animation is. I have an
- animation created by digitising all the frames of the sceen in Robinhood where
- the arrow flies through the trees, and it looks like a video tape (minus the
- overscan). Remember, film is only 24 frames per second, as is PAL video. That
- is all you need for convincing motion.
