- A friend just mailed me a description of a strange, supposedly well
- known problem with Quantum drives. Since I haven't seen it hear before,
- I'll restate it here.
-
- Quantums have a design flaw that causes them to become charged
- (electrostatic or magnetic?) and can fail on powerdown. The fix is
- equally weird. Take the unit out, set it on a table, and slowly rotate
- it back and forth (like a water faucet) about 20 times and this is
- supposed to dissipate whatever charge their is. This charge causes them
- to not be able to read the label.
-
- My friend tells me that Sun told him this. Has anyone heard of this
- one? It's hard for me to swallow.
