  13. I think I know what's wrong. Is yours an old-style 1084? My monitor did the
  14. exact same thing. It proceeded to go from a bit of flickering to a blank
  15. screen. Tapping the case brought it back - most times.

  17. What I found, when I disassembled the monitor, was a broken/intermittent solder
  18. connection on one of the connections to the FLYBACK TRANSFORMER. This
  19. transformer handles the extremely high voltage that the picture tube uses.

  21. *** USE EXTREME CAUTION IF YOU PLAN ON DOING THIS YOURSELF. EVEN AFTER THE
  22. MONITOR IS SHUT OFF, THERE IS STILL RESIDUAL LETHAL VOLTAGE THAT MUST BE
  23. DISCHARGED BEFORE HANDLING THIS AREA OF THE MONITOR. BE _VERY_ CAREFUL!!!!***

  25. It was a simple matter to remove the old solder and make a new joint. It has
  26. worked perfectly ever since.
