- RE: MONITOR BLANKING OUT......
-
- I think I know what's wrong. Is yours an old-style 1084? My monitor did the
- exact same thing. It proceeded to go from a bit of flickering to a blank
- screen. Tapping the case brought it back - most times.
-
- What I found, when I disassembled the monitor, was a broken/intermittent solder
- connection on one of the connections to the FLYBACK TRANSFORMER. This
- transformer handles the extremely high voltage that the picture tube uses.
-
- *** USE EXTREME CAUTION IF YOU PLAN ON DOING THIS YOURSELF. EVEN AFTER THE
- MONITOR IS SHUT OFF, THERE IS STILL RESIDUAL LETHAL VOLTAGE THAT MUST BE
- DISCHARGED BEFORE HANDLING THIS AREA OF THE MONITOR. BE _VERY_ CAREFUL!!!!***
-
- It was a simple matter to remove the old solder and make a new joint. It has
- worked perfectly ever since.
-
- Hope this helps - just be *CAREFUL* :-|
