-
- Yeah, hireling (at least ones of a decent level) tend to be expensive.
- The ones around level 11 seem to charge about 1200 to 2000 GP/day.
-
- : My characters are around 12 & 13, and they
- : are pretty tough, at least for the first island.
-
- Maybe for the _surface_ of the first island :-)! Ever run into a
- Master Jouster yet? *One* of those things destroyed my entire party of
- level 11/12 characters, and I don't think an extra level or two on my
- part would have helped at all. There is some nasty stuff wandering
- around underground in the first level. There's also things my
- characters can just barely beat one of, such as a Cyclops.
-
- Here's a tip: if you run into something you can't beat, do as much
- damage as you can, and then cast "Time Warp" to warp your party to a
- safe place you can rest for a while. Then go back and beat on it some
- more. I was able to beat a Cyclops King this way, in about 3 rounds of
- this. (I was not able to beat a Jouster this way).
-
- Another thing I noticed: the same spell gets more expensive to cast as
- your character rises in level. I guess as the character gets better at
- casting it, the spell point cost goes up. There are spells I used to be
- able to cast for 6 SP, which now cost 24.
-
- : I think you can sell the jewelry only at a blacksmith shop.
-
- Whenever I try to sell it, the shop says, "We have no use for this
- (Ancient) Jewelry!" I talked to New World Computing and they said it
- was a bug - you should be able to sell the jewelry.
-
- : Just check the color map that came with the game. The play area is huge
- : and there are many underground areas, castles, and towns which are not
- : represented to scale on the map.
-
- Yup. And also, there is stuff which just isn't on the map at all, but
- which is useful. The only trouble is that the islands are so large that
- I haven't found a good technique for mapping them yet.
-
- : I still prefer the Dungeon Master real time engine. I don't like timer
-
- Me too. I think they have the best game system, even better than Black
- Crypt and Eye of the Beholder, both of which suffer from the problem you
- mentioned. MM3 is still quite good though. The only games I can't go
- back to after playing DM are "overhead view" type of things such as most
- of the Ultima series.
