  15. I took delivery of a Phone Pak VFX yesterday.  Plugged it in, installed the
  16. software, and hooked up the phone lines.  I then activated the software and    
  17. attempted to dial in from the local phone.  THE MACHINE CRASHED!!!  10-15
  18. more attempts at this, from the local phone, and having a friend call in,
  19. all yielded the same results.  Sometimes part of the outgoing message would
  20. play, sometimes not.  But it never was able to record a message.  Since it
  21. was late, and the GVP service line was closed, I decided to try some other  
  22. stuff.  I followed the manual and attempted to record an outgoing message--
  23. THE MACHINE CRASHED!!!!!!  When I rebooted, DH0: was not validated.  So, I
  24. had to spend some quality time with my machine and get that fixed.

  26. I then attempted to send a fax.  Nothing fancy, just 1 line of text that read
  27. "This is a test".  I selected the fax number, picked the fax file, and told it
  28. to go.  The machine dialed the number, and the fax machine connected.  The
  29. machine started to send the fax (JOY-Something worked  I thought)

  31.     THE MACHINE CRASHED AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. I called GVP customer support and talked to them today.  Seems that the board
  34. was never tested with a PP&S 68040 card!!!!  It works with a GVP 040, but
  35. the technician "thought" that it was probably a conflict with the PP&S board.

  37. Unfortunately I can't try it without the 040 board, because I only have
  38. 1meg of CHIP ram on the motherboard and Phone Pak needs 2 megs of ram 
  39. minimum to work.

  41. So I told the guy that I would put the card in my 6 meg 3000 and try it out.

  43. "Uhh, your 3000 has to have 16 bit ram in it for Phone Pak to work--due to
  44. a flaw in the Ramsey chip." ^^^^^^ He replied.

  47. 16 BIT RAM?????? in a 3000?  How many people out there have 2 megs of 16 bit
  48. ram in a 3000?

  59. So, unless you have a GVP 040 in your 2000, or an 030/020/000 equiped 2000, I
  60. would stay away from this product.
