- Boyd-- I agree with you. UNIX PC - 3B1 was ment to run twenty-four hours/day.
- I have mine and a DOS 386 running off a Best 500W UPS. The 3B1 has been
- running this way for nearly 5 years. Constant clean power is the secret.
- Turning the 3B1 off when not in use and back on daily basis plays havoc
- with the system software and hardware. As for crashes, only when I do
- something dumb, once or twice a year where the 3B1 is concerned. In real
- life, more often. About a year ago I was collecting Hard Disk errors and
- spurious interrupts in the system log. I called AT&T and their tech said
- that the hard disk was getting some bad blocks and that I could fix this by
- doing a backup of my user files; reformating the hard disk as to mark the
- bad blocks; and then, restoring the system, applications, and user files.
- Very time consuming. But it worked. AT&T NCR now provides hardware and
- software maintenance for AT&T's line of old computers.
