- Neither CMIP nor CMOT postings belong here. CMIP clearly belongs in
- comp.protocols.iso since it is an ISO protocol. This newsgroup is
- only for SNMP postings.
-
- The newsgroup comp.protocols.iso is very low in volume so there is
- plenty of bandwidth for any and all CMIP discussions to live there.
- There is no point in creating comp.protocols.iso.cmip until there is
- so much traffic that comp.protocols.iso is noisy.
-
- Note that neither CMOT nor CMIP are derived from SNMP. However, all
- three do use ASN.1 encoding of objects and many MIBs can be
- manipulated by all three protocols. SNMP is very widely implemented
- in everything from toasters, to coke machines, to hosts, to routers,
- to whatever. Neither CMIP nor CMOT is widely used outside of Europe
- and SNMP is more widely used in Europe than CMIP and CMOT combined.
